The role of innovation management is to provide incentives to innovate.
Take the example of Adobe. They provide a cash award whenever an employee files a company patent through in house attorneys. An additional cash award is provided when the patent is actually awarded by the government patent office.
The incentive is not all dollars either. It is quite a feather in the cap of an employee that has been awarded a patent. It might even make the difference when promotion time comes.
